Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech — Your Private Atlantic Escape
Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech — Your Private Atlantic Escape
From: 129,00

Essaouira is unlike anywhere else in Morocco. Where Marrakech pulses with noise, colour, and heat, Essaouira breathes — salt air rolling in off the Atlantic, white and cobalt walls glowing in the ocean light, seagulls calling above ancient Portuguese ramparts. This is a city that slows you down in the best possible way.

Our Private Essaouira Day Trip from Marrakech is the most comfortable, flexible, and rewarding way to experience this extraordinary coastal city. Your professional driver-guide collects you directly from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8:00 or 8:30 AM and drives you west through the argan forests of the Chiadma plains towards the Atlantic coast. The journey itself is part of the experience — wide open skies, ancient argan trees, and the gradual sense that Marrakech feels very far away.

En route, you will make a comfort stop at a petrol station in Chichaoua, visit a certified women’s argan oil cooperative set within the famous argan forest biosphere, and pause at a panoramic viewpoint for your first sweeping view of Essaouira and the Atlantic Ocean stretching to the horizon.

Once in Essaouira, the day is yours. Your driver will be available whenever you need transport within the city. Explore the labyrinthine blue-washed medina at your own pace, walk the windswept ramparts above the crashing Atlantic, browse the woodworkers and artisans of the Skala souks, eat grilled sardines at the harbour port, and finish with a long walk on the wild Essaouira beach.

Your private vehicle departs Essaouira for the return to Marrakech at approximately 3:00 PM, bringing you back to your accommodation in the late afternoon — relaxed, windswept, and full of one of Morocco’s finest days out.

Book your private Essaouira day trip today and discover why this Atlantic city is the perfect counterpoint to Marrakech.

  • Private 2.5-hour scenic drive through Morocco’s famous argan forest biosphere
  • Comfort stop at Chichaoua petrol station — coffee, tea, and facilities
  • Visit a certified women’s argan oil cooperative in the argan forest
  • Panoramic first view of Essaouira and the Atlantic Ocean on arrival
  • Free time to explore the UNESCO-listed blue-and-white medina at your own pace
  • Walk the historic Portuguese ramparts above the crashing Atlantic waves
  • Browse the artisan Skala souks — woodwork, spices, jewellery, and Gnawa music
  • Fresh seafood lunch at the famous Essaouira fishing harbour (optional, not included)
  • Wild Atlantic beach — perfect for a walk, windsurfing, or simply breathing ocean air
  • Departure from Essaouira at approx. 3:00 PM — return to Marrakech by early evening
  • 100% private vehicle — Economy Sedan, Comfort Van, or Luxury Van
  • Door-to-door pickup and drop-off from any hotel, riad, or apartment in Marrakech

Your private driver-guide will collect you directly from your hotel, riad, or
apartment anywhere in Marrakech at 8:00 or 8:30 AM — agreed at booking. All
vehicles are fully air-conditioned and comfortable for the 2.5-hour drive.
The road west towards Essaouira passes through flat red plains before entering
the vast argan forest, a UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve unique to Morocco and
southwest of Marrakech. Your guide will share the story of this extraordinary
landscape as you drive.

Approximately one hour into the journey, your driver will stop at a petrol station
in Chichaoua — a practical and welcome pause for a coffee or tea, a snack, and
restroom facilities. Refreshments are available for purchase and are not included
in the tour price. A good moment to stretch, wake up, and prepare for the
second half of the drive through the argan forest.

Deep in the argan forest between Chichaoua and Essaouira, your driver will stop
at a certified women’s argan oil cooperative. Here you will meet the local Berber
women who hand-crack argan nuts, cold-press pure argan oil, and produce cosmetic
and culinary argan products using techniques passed down through generations.

This is not a tourist trap — it is a genuine social cooperative that supports
the economic independence of rural Berber women. You can taste, learn, and
purchase 100% authentic argan oil directly from the producers at fair prices.
Products include culinary argan oil, cosmetic oil, amlou (argan and almond
paste), and traditional Moroccan black soap.

Before descending into the city, your driver will stop at a panoramic viewpoint
offering your first sweeping view of Essaouira — the white medina gleaming
against the blue Atlantic, the ancient ramparts stretching along the coast, and
the wide arc of the beach disappearing into the distance. A perfect moment for
photos and your first breath of Atlantic ocean air.

Your driver will drop you at a convenient point near the medina entrance. From
here, the day is entirely yours. With approximately 3.5 to 4 hours of free time,
here is what we recommend:

The Blue Medina — Wander the narrow alleyways of the UNESCO-listed medina,
one of the best-preserved in Morocco. The blue-painted walls, wooden mashrabiya
screens, and artisan workshops of the Skala quarter are extraordinarily
photogenic. Get lost — that is the point.

The Ramparts — Walk the top of the historic Portuguese sea fortifications
for spectacular views of the Atlantic ocean crashing against the walls below.
The Skala de la Ville is the most iconic viewpoint in Essaouira.

The Fishing Harbour & Seafood Lunch — Essaouira’s working fishing port is one
of the most atmospheric in Morocco. The harbour-front grill stalls serve the
freshest grilled sardines, sea bass, and calamari in the country at very
reasonable prices (approx. 80–150 MAD per person). Highly recommended.

The Beach — Essaouira’s long Atlantic beach stretches for kilometres south of
the medina. It is consistently windy — Essaouira is one of the world’s top
windsurfing and kitesurfing destinations — but perfect for a long walk with
the Atlantic spray on your face.

The Gnawa Music Scene — Essaouira is the spiritual home of Gnawa music, a
hypnotic West African-rooted musical tradition unique to Morocco. Musicians
can be heard throughout the medina. If you visit in June, the legendary
Gnawa World Music Festival transforms the entire city.

Your driver will meet you at the agreed pickup point in Essaouira at approximately
3:00 PM for the return journey to Marrakech. You will arrive back at your
accommodation in the early evening — typically between 5:30 and 6:00 PM —
with your evening free for dinner in the medina or a rooftop sunset.

Note: If you would like a later return or extra time in Essaouira, simply let
us know at booking and we will adjust the schedule to your preference.

How far is Essaouira from Marrakech?

Essaouira is approximately 185 km west of Marrakech. The drive takes around 2.5 hours on a well-maintained road through the argan forest and Chiadma plains.

Is this a private or shared tour?

This is a 100% private excursion. Your vehicle is exclusively reserved for your group — no other travellers will join you at any point. This means full flexibility over timing, stops, and pace.

What time does the trip depart?

Standard departure is 8:00 or 8:30 AM from your Marrakech accommodation. This gives you maximum time in Essaouira. If you prefer a slightly later departure, contact us at booking and we will do our best to accommodate.

What vehicle options are available?

We offer three categories to suit your group and comfort level: Economy Sedan for 1 to 3 passengers, Comfort Van for 4 to 6 passengers, and Luxury Van (Mercedes or equivalent) for groups of 4 to 6 who prefer a premium experience. All vehicles are fully air-conditioned and professionally maintained.

Is there a stop on the way to Essaouira?

Yes — we make a practical comfort stop at a petrol station in Chichaoua (approx. 1 hour from Marrakech) for coffee, snacks, and restroom facilities. We also visit a certified women’s argan oil cooperative in the argan forest, and stop at a panoramic viewpoint for your first view of Essaouira and the Atlantic.

What is the argan cooperative stop?

This is a certified social cooperative run by local Berber women who produce authentic argan oil by hand. You can watch the process, taste the oil, and purchase products directly at fair prices. This is a genuine artisanal stop — not a tourist shop.

Is lunch included?

Lunch is not included. We recommend eating at the fishing harbour grill stalls in Essaouira — freshly grilled sardines, sea bass, and calamari at very affordable prices (approx. 80–150 MAD per person). Your guide will point you in the right direction on arrival.

How much free time do I have in Essaouira?

You will have approximately 3.5 to 4 hours of free time in Essaouira — enough to explore the medina, walk the ramparts, visit the harbour, and enjoy lunch. If you would like more time, we can arrange a later return departure.

What is the weather like in Essaouira?

Essaouira is famously windy — it is one of the top windsurfing destinations in the world. Even in summer when Marrakech is extremely hot, Essaouira stays pleasantly cool thanks to the Atlantic trade winds. We always recommend bringing a light jacket or layer regardless of season.

How do I book?

Use the booking form on this page for instant confirmation. You can also reach us directly by WhatsApp or email. All bookings are confirmed within 2 hours.

Excursion to do absolutely, the port town is a gem on the ocean. Thanks to a wonderful day we could wander freely in the medina looking for gifts and then buy the fish at the port from the fishermen and eat it the same roasted over coals. The people are exquisite and walking on the beach miles a real pleasure

  2. Nayana

Opting for a private driver in Marrakech was a game-changer for our trip. Our driver, Ayoub, was punctual, friendly, and knowledgeable, making our city exploration seamless. The vehicle was comfortable and well-maintained, adding to the overall positive experience. Highly recommend this service

  3. Daniel M

This was a great experience with nice explanations about Essaouira. I would recommend 100%, thanks a lot to Sadok and his team 🙂

  4. Martina M

Our experience with our driver Laarbi is positive. Our pick up at our Marrakesh hotel was punctual and as agreed. His driving is thoughtful and safe, and his service was polite and kind. This getaway to Essaouira nd the Atlantic oceean from the hustle and bustle (noise and pollution) of Marrakesh was the perfect way to relax for a day by the sea and in a calm sea side town with friendly people. We would recommend this 1 day excursion.

  5. Beverley K

Pick up from hotel on time. Guide Abdul explained itinerary to us. He spoke English which was great for us. Stopped off at cafe and Argan Oil co- operative on the way. Arrived in Essaouira at mid- day. Had 5 hours free time. Nice clean town with plenty of shops in the Medina and lovely beach. Plenty of restaurants. Collected promptly at 5pm at designated point. Delivered safely back to hotel. Recommended *****

  6. Laëtitia J

Very nice busy day! Our driver Saif was very friendly! He also made the guide on the way out which lasts 3 hours. You can book with your eyes closed without any problems.

  7. Michele S

We did this tour with Mustapha as the guide, he is an amazing person and guide. He is always making sure you are comfortable, okay and that you are enjoying yourself. The trip was lovely overall, I wish we would have had more time in Essoura but it’s a 3 hr drive there and 3 hr back so I understand it’s very difficult to do. I would super recommend this trip at least to give you a taster of what Essoura is like, you will not regret it!

  8. Naveen D

This trip was exceptional. Hamid our driver was kind enough to pick us up from our apartment and drop us back. Mustapha our guide was knowledgeable and looked after us very well even stopped to get us water, and was also very informative about the place we had visited. He made the trip worth it. The town itself was unlike anywhere I’ve been before it had culture and charm, followed by outstanding views. If you are looking to explore somewhere more chill and less haggling than Marrakesh I’d highly recommend. It was a beautiful town and an unforgettable trip.
